Studying and work experience

I arrived in Leeds nearly 7 years ago when I started a degree in Public Relations at Leeds Metropolitan University. After 2 years I headed off on placement to VisitScotland to work as part of the UK and Ireland Consumer PR team. As PR assistant I organised press trips, wrote press releases, organised coverage evaluation, assisted in campaign planning and assisted at events gaining a balanced introduction to the PR, tourism and events industries.

After the year out I continued my degree whilst working as part of the PR and marketing team at mima (Middlesbrough Institute for Mordern Art). On completion of my degree and before I’d even graduated I started in a temporary position at Recognition Marketing and PR where I continued to gain insight into the industry and graduated with a 2:1.

Beginning work in an agency

In July 2008, nearly three years ago – I started at Bonner & Hindley as PR and Promotions Executive ending my time there in July this year (2011) managing clients and project managing a consortium of attractions which incorporates consortia management, planning, PR, marketing and exhibition planning and attendence. I also looked after promotions for a wide array of clients, wrote press releases and implemened PR strategy.

Time for an in-house role

Throughout the last 4 years I have developed a keen interest in social media which lead me to my current role at Toyota Material Handling UK looking after online communications, PR and general marketing.

I am commited to continued learning and strive to try new things in the medium and track the changes it is making to the communications industry.
